Patio de la Montería – The Montería (Hunting) Courtyard
El Patio de la Montería es el patio principal del Alcázar y funciona como distribuidor de los edificios palaciegos: el Palacio Mudéjar, el Palacio Gótico y la Casa de la Contratación. Recibe este nombre porque allí se reunían los monteros reales para salir a cazar.
La configuración actual como espacio arquitectónico y antesala del área palatina, procede del periodo en que se construye el Palacio del Rey Don Pedro I de Castilla en 1364.
Bajo la solería de este patio se encuentran los cimientos de los palacios almohades del siglo XII. En el lado occidental, se establece La Casa de la Contratación de 1503 con una galería porticada del siglo XVII, construida por Antón Sánchez Hurtado. El lado oriental es edificado por el arquitecto Sebastián Van der Borcht en 1755, después del terremoto de Lisboa.
The Monteria Courtyard is the main courtyard of the Royal Alcazar of Seville, and it is the organizer of the palace buildings: the Mudéjar Palace, the Gothic Palace and the Admiral’s Hall. The origin of its name comes from being the hunters meeting place, to start the hunting with the King Peter I.
The current conßguration as architectural space and anteroom of the Palaces, comes from the period of the Palace of King Peter I construction, in 1364. Under the slabs of this courtyard were found the ruins of different twelfth century Almohad palaces.
On the Western side of this courtyard was established The House of Trade in 1503. The current facade with a portico was built during the seventeenth century, by Antón Sánchez Hurtado. The East side facade was built by Sebastian Van der Borcht in 1755, after the Lisbon earthquake.
