Patio de la Alcubilla – Alcubilla Courtyard
Este jardín es también conocido como “Patio del Tenis”, dado que en el mismo la Familia Real Española construyó una pista de tenis a principios del siglo XX, siendo la más anti- gua construida en España.
La fuente central, que proviene del siglo XVII, estuvo previamente en el Palacio de la fa- milia Sánchez-Dalp, también en Sevilla. Se trasladó a este patio en los años 70 del siglo pasado. Los arcos mudéjares de la galería norte del patio formaban parte del conocido como Cuarto del Sol.
La galería sur linda con el Pabellón de la China, el edificio creado para albergar la colec- ción de cerámica de la Familia Real, durante el reinado de Felipe V. Este monarca fue el primer rey Borbón español, y residió en el Real Alcázar de Sevilla de 1729 a 1733.
It is also known as the “Tennis Courtyard”, because in this place the Spanish Royal Family built a tennis court at the beginning of the 20th Century. In fact this was the ßrst tennis court ever built in Spain.
The central fountain, which dates from the 17th century, previously stood at the Sánchez-Dalp Family Palace, in Seville. It was moved to the Courtyard n the 1970’s. The Mudejar arches on the northern gallery of the courtyard were part of the so-called Cuarto del Sol, or Sun Room.
The southern gallery leads through to the China Pavilion, the building created to house the Royal Family’s collection of ceramics during the reign of King Philip the V. Philip the V was Spain ßrst Bourbon king, and he resided at the Royal Alcazar of Seville from 1729 to 1733.
