Escalera y Tapiz – Staircase and tapestry
La escalera que da acceso al Cuarto Real Alto es la principal de todo el conjunto palacie- go. Fue construida durante el reinado de Felipe II en el siglo XVI.
El zócalo de azulejos que la recorre, es una copia de los originales que se encuentran en el Convento de Madre de Dios de Sevilla.
La corona un bello artesonado de casetones poligonales con talla de flores en el centro. El Tapiz de la pared frontal es del siglo XVII, realizado en Bruselas y representa una escena mitológica, “Dido y Eneas”, en la que Virgilio se inspiró para componer su cono- cida Eneida.
The staircase leading to the Upper Palace is the most important of the whole palace. It was built during the reign of Philip II in the sixteenth century.
The ceramic plinth that decorate its walls, is a copy of the originals which are at “Madre de Dios” Convent, in Seville.
It is crowned by a beautiful polygonal coffered ceiling, decorated with carved ßowers. The front wall tapestry was created in Brussels during the seventeenth century and represents a mythological scene, “Dido and Aeneas", in which Virgil was inspired to compose his famous Aeneid.
